Handmade Crafts: Etsy.com

If you love crafts that are hand made and not mass produced, check out this site:
Etsy.com

I found my Pompasita Jar there, and my friend Kelli lists her in stock crafts there as well, not just the dolls, but quilts and purses and such too. There are jewelry makers, potters, fabric-crafts, children's clothes, dolls, paintings, et.al. there. Great site!

It's like going to an art fair without leaving home!

Harold Smith: Woodcarver (and my gramps)

My family is blessed with a ton of talented artists! My grandfather, Harold Smith, is one such person. Here are a few examples of his work from his website (listed below) and a badly focused picture of the hummingbird he gave me last year or the year before (my mind isn't functioning as to dates right now), he made very similar ones for ALL his grandchildren.

1. Red-Throated Hummingbird

2. Piliated Woodpecker

3. Chickadee House

4. and a very badly focused picture of the hummingbird he gave me for christmas.

his website is here:

I highly recommend this site!

Pompasita Bottle

This adorable bottle had me laughing the first minute I saw it, and I knew I had to have it!!!
Fortunately it isn't as large as I was imagining it would be because I just knew I wouldn't know where to put it. But it is a wee little thing and I truly, truly LOVE IT!!!!!

To find her artwork here is her blog address:

www.antbpottery.blogspot.com

and her etsy site:

www.antb.etsy.com

Etsy has a wonderful selection of handmade items. If you are interested in true craftsmanship, you will probably find a good bit here.

Description from Antonia on her etsy site.

This bottle is made from porcelain clay. While it was still wet, I altered
it to have a tushie. Later I fired it unglazed in a gas kiln to 2400
degrees F.

While I was working on this, my neighbor dropped by. She looked at
the bottle, laughed and said, "Mira la pompasita!" (Look at the little
tushie!). So I named this bottle a pompasita bottle.

I left this bottle unglazed, because I love the slight sheen and subtle
color variation the flames leave on plain porcelain. Since I fire so hot,
my pottery is fully vitrified (rock or glass-like) so it is food safe and
useful even unglazed.

It is 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall and 5.5 inches (14 cm) across at it's
widest.

Unfortunately, this bottle does have a very tiny crack on the bottom.
(It's bottom, not the bottom ...You know what I mean!) The crack does
not go all the way through, so this flaw in no way effects the
usefulness or cuteness of this work.

This bottle is food safe and dishwasher safe.
